Booking Your Flight

There can be something wonderful about planning a vacation. So if you are planning to take a trip here are some tips to get you through the planning and booking phases.

If there were ever any rules for booking airfare, they are now gone. Airfares change constantly, even by the minute. It can be very frustrating trying to get the best rate, but these tips can help you pay less.

1. Book early. The sooner you can decide the travel dates for your vacation the better.Don’t wait too long or you might find yourself having to make alternate plans. Book your travel as far in advance as possible. That way, there are many options in terms of flight availability and fares. If you think you will get great deals at the last minute, such as right before you want to travel, think again. Airlines tend to drastically increase rates within 14 days of departure., an airline ticket comparison shopping website, recommends Tuesday afternoons after 3 pm Eastern Time as the best time to start shopping for fares. This is because airlines start competing for the lowest fares of the week on Tuesday mornings with the best window for purchasing from Tuesday afternoon to Thursday afternoon.

2. Avoid peak seasons if you can. Keep in mind the holidays are among the busiest travel days of the year With many airlines decreasing the number of flights, there are only a limited number of seats available. If you're heading to a popular destination, there is a good chance that others are doing the same. Plan ahead.

3. Be flexible. If you find fares are high for certain travel days then check fares for a day or two earlier or later. If you are able to be flexible on the days you actually travel, you could save yourself some money—money that you could use at your vacation destination.

4. Use fare tracker alerts. If you have a particular travel destination in mind, you can often set up various fare tracker alerts through travel websites if you are booking airfare yourself. Then book when the fare drops. Don’t forget to check your email or the website often though since fares can quickly jump back up.

5. Fly on less popular days, such as a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. These days typically offer lower fares.

6. Choose a less popular flight time, such as early in the morning, around dinnertime, or overnight. These flights may have more seats available and sometimes have cheaper fares.

7. Don’t forget about the extra costs associated with flying. These include baggage fees, costs for snacks or meals while flying, fees for particular seat assignments, and parking fees. Fees and extra costs can add up, so when you are looking for rates that will fit within your budget, keep this in mind. Since airlines often change or add new fees, you may want to double-check these fees with the airline before you fly so there are no unexpected surprises.

8. Book through a travel agent. Travel agents can help you find the cheapest airfare possible. This can save a lot on the hassle of booking a flight, especially during peak travel times, like holidays. In addition, booking all of your travel and lodgings through one location can simplify things.

9. Plan ahead in case of inclement weather, a travel delay, or emergency. It seems inevitable that some airports in the U.S. will have inclement weather affecting flights. Keep in mind that this could affect your own travel. That plane that was coming from New York to your destination for its next leg of travel might not make it to you if it is grounded. Check the status of a flight before arriving at the airport. Many airlines offer tools to check online for the status of your flight, as well as phone numbers to call beforehand.

Take all necessary phone numbers related with your booking with you in case you need to fix an issue related to a cancellation or delay. Keep these documents in your carry-on luggage just in case you need them. When an entire plane-load of passengers finds themselves without a way to get to their destination, then it can sometimes be faster to call your travel agent or the airline for help rather than stand in the inevitable long lines at the airport.

10. In addition to knowing what to do in case of a cancellation, opting for trip insurance can add some peace of mind. Some trip insurance plans offer a Cancel for Any Reason and Travel Protection Plan that includes reimbursement of travel expenses and limited coverage for medical expenses, lost or stolen baggage, trip interruption due to sickness or death of you or an immediate family member, trip delay and baggage delay.

Why I Enjoy Staying At Sandals Resorts

My introduction to Sandals Resorts was at Sandals Royal Bahamian in 2004.

The first thing I noticed was the friendly, smiling faces and being greeted by any of the staff members to include the landscaping staff. After staying at the resort for several days many of the staff knew our names. Of course the water activities were great and the food delicious, but it was the staff that really made me enjoy staying at Sandals Royal Bahamian.

What impressed me the most about the staff was their willingness to go beyond  a simple request. We had a funny incident that was the result of a miscommunication. We had taken food back to our room, but failed to take utensils to eat with. We saw a housekeeping staff member in the hallway and asked about “flatware”. They were very ready to assist us. About 15 minutes had passed and we thought they had forgotten us, but then we heard a knock at the door. When we opened the door the staff member was there holding plastic wrap. They thought we had asked for “flat wrap” to wrap our plate of food and had gone to the kitchen and acquired some plastic wrap for us. When we realized what had happened we explained we wanted “flatware” or in simple terms a fork. We all chuckled over the miscommunication and we thanked them immensely for going all the way to the kitchen for us.

There wasn't a hesitation to assist us even with what they thought was a request for plastic wrap to cover our plate of food. It was that willingness to make a guest happy that made me truly enjoy my trip.

Since that time I have had the opportunity to stay at several other Sandals and Beaches Resorts. I have found that each time we stayed it was the staff who made our experience a terrific one. Vacations aren't always perfect and things do go wrong, but when you stay at a resort where the staff puts your happiness and enjoyment first it makes all the difference in the world.

Caribbean Vacation Experiences by

Welcome to the Caribbean!

Sun, brilliant white sand, aquamarine seas - sound like the Caribbean of your imagination? This tropical paradise exists on all twenty-seven islands of the Caribbean. From the most famous beaches to the out-of-the-way cays, paradise starts where the palm trees end and the white sand starts. The Caribbean is also rich with surprises. Wander the islands and you will hear eight major languages. You might also see a cricket match, a colorful street festival, and brisk action at the blackjack tables.

With its plentiful coral reefs, the waters of the Caribbean were made for scuba diving. Colorful snorkeling gear and flippers are poolside everywhere. And those pools - they come in every shape and size, from sprawling complexes with swim-up bars to private plunge pools.   Decide where to stay is half the fun. How about a funky cabana right on the beach? A luxury suite? Your perfect place to sleep may be either of these settings or any in between, including a hammock strung between two palms.

The Caribbean is all about unwinding - however you choose to do it - and, of course, eating. Savor jerk chicken, jerk fish fresh off the grill or sample gourmet cuisine. A simple glass of mango juice may be just the thing to refresh you.  We invite you to explore the Caribbean islands by selecting one of the many fine destinations listed below.

Cancun's Newest All Inclusive Resort!

Introducing Me Cancun

It may be a daring attempt to get more hotel business to Mexico in a competitive marketplace, or perhaps it’s just the way of the future for all hotels in the country. Whatever the reason, more and more established hotels in Mexico are turning all-inclusive.

Sol Melia Hotels & Resorts decided late last year to adopt the all-inclusive tag at its ME Cancun, which officially made the transition on January 1.  The ME Cancun’s new business model is dubbed “Complete ME.” There will still be an EP aspect to the hotel, however. Tony Cortizas, Sol Melia’s vice president of marketing/Premium Portfolio, says the restaurants will remain open to locals and tourists who aren’t guests at the hotel at a cost. According to him, there was a “constant demand” for an all-inclusive plan at the hotel.

The 419-room ME Cancun will now allow its guests to choose from an array of packages as part of the “Complete ME” concept. The hotel’s basic offering will focus on traditional amenities such as unlimited food and beverage, complimentary pool access, YHI Spa’s fitness center, Wi-Fi and all in-room amenities, including iPod docking stations. Guest rooms on The Level, the hotel’s premium collection of accommodations, will have elevated privileges and amenities that will be part of The Level package. Here, for instance, guests will have access to private VIP check-in, exclusive use of the 10th floor’s Living Room lounge, exclusive concierge services and 24-hour in-room dining at no extra cost. Me Cancun is considered to be an adult-oriented resort.
